You can do it with a regular sewing machine using zigzag stitches but I like to do it with my embroidery machine. I use Brother CanvasWorkspace to make my appliques and after that, I transfer them to the machine with a USB drive. Fold the ends over to form a point, as shown, concealing the seam you just stitched. Though it is optional and depends on your personal preference, having a matching set would be more cohesive and coordinated. Not to mention, it’s visually pleasing and looks more dynamic.
